Why subscribe?
I write about books (and sometimes on movies, or poetry too). You can subscribe to read about interesting books and differing perspectives.
Why Substack?
I also write on my Wordpress blog. But Big Tech censorship is all too pervasive nowadays. In December 2022, just a couple of days before the new year’s eve, I got an email from WordPress stating that my blog had been suspended for violating their Terms of Service. Really? I had been writing on their platform since more than 10 years. I frantically submitted a “review request” and posted on their Help forums. The Help forum was as unhelpful as it should have been, with nonchalant administrators telling me that they can’t comment publicly on decisions pertaining to suspended blogs and that I should wait till the review was completed.
10 years of my work just disappeared in smoke that day. I had taken no backups ever. Even the “export” option had been disabled.
Next day I get an email stating that they were sorry for the trouble as my blog had been wrongly suspended by their automated script (bot)! An automated script decides if I have violated their ToS?
That day I decided to diversify and publish on multiple platforms.
